BB-Lightconcepts took care of the lighting in the underground car park of City Hall Venlo with her BB LEDlightpipe. Venlo is the first region in the world who uses full implementation of the Cradle-to-Cradle principles. This resulted in an unique design process and an extraordinary inspiring building that combines a comfortable working environment with sustainable innovations.
The project incorporates several strategies to guarantee sustainability: the heavily polluted air from the adjacent road is cleaned by the building and cooled down with the help of the Maas River and the underground car park; the offices and glass house generate heat for the surrounding homes by implementation of a geothermal heat pump; rain water will be collected and used, then cleaned and released into the Maas. The building will be mainly constructed out of wood.
With the BB LEDlightpipe, the car park of the new City Hall in Venlo is equipped with proven sustainable Cradle-to-Cradle lighting. In 2014 BB-Lightconcepts received a Cradle to Cradle Bronze certificate on the BB LEDlightpipe. This makes BB-Lightconcepts the world's first and so far the only manufacturer of business to business LED lighting that received a Cradle to Cradle certificate for her products.
Although the whole building is not opened yet, the car park has been open since the 1st of may. The opening of the car park was necessary due a shortage of parking places in the city. The office will be opened later. More information about the City Hall Venlo can be found here.
